Before we started Geml, we were 30-somethings who were tired of the limitless options in the murky seas of online dating apps. The endless swiping, lack of meaningful conversation, disappointing dates, and large time investment had us feeling cynical about finding love that lasts.

We wanted to take the research behind relationship science like the importance of first impressions and the role of preferences in attraction and infuse it into a safe, fun, and connected online dating container that was aligned with our values, needs, and desires.

We invented a “slow” speed dating approach with Geml.

Unlike other dating apps that have no individualized match-making tools, or post-messaging reflection, Geml encourages users to provide feedback after their dates to refine their dating pool and get personalized matches based on their preferences and compatibility.

Through one-on-one matching, discovery chats, post-date feedback, rematching, and the ability to pause matching for reflection and self-care, we created a concept known as Discovery Dating. Discovery Dating allows individuals to approach dating as an opportunity to find out more about themselves.
